What equality, diversity and inclusion means at Arriva

Equality at Arriva means we do not discriminate based on any individual characteristic and employees should expect this in all aspects of their work lives.

Diversity at Arriva means that we actively seek out and value difference. We want our workforce to reflect the wide range of communities we serve, so we can serve them even better.

Inclusion at Arriva means that we are working to create a culture in which each employee feels welcome and that they belong. All Arriva employees should feel they can flourish and progress.

An inclusive and diverse team

We are constantly improving Arriva to become an even more diverse and inclusive place to work where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to grow and develop, where their ideas for improvement are harnessed.

This is good for our people and good for Arriva. A diverse team helps us provide better services and brings different insights, experiences, and needs, so we are better able to serve the needs and interests of our passengers and clients.

Our five Global Inclusion Networks – Wellbeing, LGBT+, Disability, Race and Ethnicity, Gender – are open to everyone at Arriva. The networks are owned and led by employees who directly contribute to, influence, and shape our approach to inclusion.

“Our GAIN (Group Arriva Inclusion Network) group for race and ethnicity is delivering positive change and action through providing a network of support, by raising awareness and by delivering initiatives that will lead to greater respect and inclusion for all employees.”

Darren Thomas-Frederick

GAIN Race & Ethnicity Chair, Arriva UK

“Arriva is a great place to work because we truly care about individual people and their diverse backgrounds. For example, following conversations in our GAIN for Gender group, we set up a wonderful Menopause Matters group where we regularly get together to share our experiences, care for each other, listen, and help to create overall awareness.”

Reflecting the communities we serve

Our ambition is to become an industry-leading organisation, known as a fair and equal employer, a great place to work, and an organisation that attracts the best talent.

We want to attract more people early in their careers, retain our best people, and increase the representation of underrepresented groups to broaden the skills, perspectives, and experiences of our workforce.

We are working to ensure that by 2030, our employees reflect the communities we serve, with continuous improvements in our workforce and workplace.

We want you to be comfortable being yourself at work and we recognise that being confident in who you are positively impacts your well-being and your ability to be your best.

Our ‘I can be me’ campaign features people across Arriva who feel that they can be themselves at Arriva and that their individual perspective and experience is valued.

“At Arriva I can progress and not be missed out. I can express how I feel and what ideas I have without ever feeling ridiculed.”

Joanna Wilinska

Driving Instructor, Arriva UK

“I can be myself. Colleagues respect me, I am accepted for who I am, without any doubts.”

Radovan Redina

Project Manager, Arriva Czech Republic

“My colleagues were generally supportive and positive; they appreciated that I was open and matter of fact about things. I remember some saying: ‘I don't know if I’ll get your name right immediately, it’ll take me some time to get used to it’. To me, this shows that people are trying, which is what matters. If you keep doing that, you’ll eventually get it right. I didn’t get used to everything overnight either – it’s a
