Chiltern Railways in the UK introduced first hybrid train into passenger service. Each journey delivers a 25 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions and nitrogen oxide and pollutants are also cut by 70 and 90 per cent respectively.
Arriva Group awarded €5.3 million of funding by European Union for environmental programmes. The three projects are in water saving, air quality, and circularity of materials for infrastructure.
Arriva UK Bus purchased 22 electric double-decker buses in Leicester. The buses will be delivered into our Leicester operation in October 2023 and will be the city’s first ever electric double-decker buses, as well as being Arriva’s first outside of London.

Arriva began powering UK stations, depots and offices with 100% renewable electricity, becoming the first transport operator in the UK to switch to 100% renewable electricity supply.
Together with Stadler, we developed a world-first: a hybrid train that uses diesel engines and recuperation batteries that can be converted to zero-emission and introduced the first train into passenger service in 2020 reducing CO2 emissions by 89%.
